Senior ACC River Safe Programme
This fun day is a combination of theory and river based activities.
ACC RiverSafe Senior is a classroom and river based learning programme about enjoying rivers safely. It is targeted at secondary school students and has been developed for use with levels 4, 5 and 6 of the Health and Physical Education in the New Zealand Curriculum.
The ACC RiverSafe learning programme is in two sections.
- Section 1: Getting to know rivers (classroom based)
- Section 2: Enjoying rivers safely (river based)
ACC RiverSafe Senior has been developed to work sequentially through activities to provide students with a logical learning progression. This progression builds a broad river knowledge base and then applies the knowledge gained to more specific activities in and around rivers.
Underlying concepts: River Safe addresses the four supporting concepts of the framework for Learning in Health Education and Physical Education, well- being hauora, health promotion, socio-ecological perspectives, attitudes & values.
River Safe has been designed primarily for the Outdoor Education key area of learning.

- Level 5: Strand C Relationships with other people, interpersonal skills
- Level 6: Strand D Healthy communities and environment, people and the environment
River Safe can also be linked to the social studies, geography, mathematics, science & technology curricula.
